Oct 14, 2008 · Warrior Entertainment's creature feature DENIZEN finds the "Light of Day" · Press Release

The latest J.A. Steel film from Warrior Entertainment, DENIZEN will feature music from Salt Lake City band The Street. Steel is using three songs from the band, "Light of Day", "Walls" and "Devil's Dilemma." Recently, Promark Drumsticks supplied a product endorsement to The Street's drummer Rob Lambros to be featured with the band's cameo appearance in the film. With the addition of The Street to the DENIZEN soundtrack, Steel hopes for another award winning music score. Zakky Nova of the band 4Saken1 is once again providing songs and crafted the music for the DENIZEN: TEASER TRAILER which screened at the Tulsa Defcon 7 to a standing room only audience and at the Trash Film Festival in Varazdin, Croatia.

Steel is in the process of completing principal photography on DENIZEN The plot of the film revolves around a small group of scientists that must stop a creature from terrorizing a small town before the town’s annihilation by the military. The cast is led by Julie Lisandro (CHEERLEADER MASSACRE), Glen Jensen (FINGERPRINTS), with SALVATIONS veterans Jody Mullins and Ben Bayless rounding out the cast. White Eye Comics and Lawrence White are currently developing a comic based on the feature.

As DENIZEN heads into post-production, Steel has begun moving production operations from Oklahoma where DENIZEN and SALVATION were shot to Salt Lake City, Utah. Called "The Roger Corman of the 21st Century" it is no wonder Steel wants to film closer to home, her production slate for 2009 includes OPERATION: OVERLORD, an untitled comedy feature, a horror webseries, and a romantic comedy television pilot.

Mar 24, 2008 · DENIZEN creature terrorizes small town. · Press Release

J.A. Steel's latest feature film, DENIZEN is set to descend on Muskogee, Oklahoma within the month. Shooting for Steel's third feature is slated to begin production on April 24, 2008. The plot line is simple. Peace gets shattered in a small town, when suddenly a mysterious creature starts to leave a bloody trail. The last hope for the residents to fight the terror and prevent the destruction by military forces rests on the courage and the resourcefulness of a small group of scientists. But Steel's films are usually anything but simple.

DENIZEN will feature some underwater camera work by Steel, as well as scuba diving, fight scenes, and yet more aerial sequences. "I'm excited." Steel commented. "Year before last, I filmed SALVATION entirely in Muskogee and Ft. Gibson. It's due out on video in July. It's nice to have a follow-up movie that's a cross between THE THIRD SOCIETY and my last one." The underwater scuba scenes will be shot at Lake Tenkiller on an actual sunken town beneath the lake.

Steel herself is no stranger to scuba diving, producing the award winning documentary pilot DIVE THE DEEP BLUE. Aqualung International and Riffe spearguns have added their names to the credits as product sponsors. Steel grins, "Guns underwater. It doesn't get any better than this." Steel always smiles when talking about any type of gun. Most of Steel's personal scuba diving gear is already made by Aqualung. "I use Aqualung's Legend for both my tech diving and recreational diving. I love their gear." Steel is a Cave Diver and has woven a bit of cave diving lore into the DENIZEN plot.

A comic is also in the works for DENIZEN as Steel's Warrior Entertainment has partnered with Lawrence White's White Eye Comics to bring the real world action characters to print.

DENIZEN will star Julie Corgill-Lisandro (Cheerleader Massacre), Glen Jensen (Fingerprints, Soul's Midnight), Ben Bayless and Jody Mullins with a special guest appearance by Tiffany Shepis (Nightmare Man, Abominable).

Warrior Entertainment recently signed a deal with MultiVisionnaire Pictures to represent J.A. Steel's debut feature film THE THIRD SOCIETY for all media outside the United States. The THE THIRD SOCIETY plot focuses on a female cop, Jones, who has 24 hours to save her sister from the Asian Mafia. Released in 2003 to international success, THE THIRD SOCIETY has won Steel numerous accolades for both her filmmaking and her ability to put together an award winning soundtrack. The film stars Sonya Eddy (SEINFELD), Russell Brown (THE AMAZING RACE), and Charles Shen (NIP/TUCK).

MultiVisionnaire Pictures will be at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California October 31 to November 7, 2007. Steel will be in attendance from Thursday November 1 through Sunday, November 4.

Steel's second feature, SALVATION premiered at the Fright Night Film Festival in Louisville, Kentucky on August 19. SALVATION won its first award as Steel took home an Honorable Mention for her efforts. On September 15, SALVATION made its international debut in Varaždin, Croatia at the Trash Film Festival with a nomination in the Best Science Fiction Film category. SALVATION: THE TRAILER took home a Silver Medal at the 2007 Park City Film Music Festival for Best Use of Music in a Short with honors going to composer Dan Radlauer and Zakky Nova of the band 4Saken1. Like THE THIRD SOCIETY Steel directed the film and its action sequences but also wrote, produced, and had a supporting role acting in the movie. Steel co-edited SALVATION with Emmy Nominated Editor Joe Gressis.

SALVATION then screens in September as part of the Trash Film Festival held September 13-15 in Varazdin, Croatia. The Trash Film Festival is a festival specialized for low-budget movies, primarily for those films that contain strong action, martial-arts, horror and science fiction attributes. The aim of the festival is to gather filmmakers and film enthusiasts, amateurs as well as professionals, who enjoy the entertaining component of the kinematics, and to reward them for their contribution to film magic.

Several years pass when Michaela (Heather Surdukan) confronts the Biker Gang that killed her, led by Billy Bedlam (Devon Brewster). Sheriff Dade suddenly has a string of unexplained murders that all lead to Michaela as the killer. Michaela must choose sides in the heavenly battle between Malchezidek and Gabriel and her own existence in Purgatory forever.

Steel's latest endeavor, another sci-fi action feature entitled OPERATION OVERLORD is currently in development. Steel plans to begin shooting in the early Summer of 2008 with the film to be released in early 2009.

SALVATION then screens in September as part of the Trash Film Festival held September 13-15 in Varazdin, Croatia. Feb 9, 2007 · Indie film Director Steel finds SALVATION in Park City during Sundance · Press Release

The SALVATION teaser trailer took home a Silver Medal for Excellence in the Best Impact of Music in a Short Film category at the Park City Film Music Festival last week. With its emphasis on music used in independent film, the Park City Film Music Festival highlights movies that best utilize music or a variety of music throughout the course of a film. The Park City Film Music Festival ran concurrently with the Sundance and Slamdance Film Festivals January 23-28, 2007.

Filmed entirely in Oklahoma, SALVATION opens with the murder of the Knights Templar in 1307 by the Catholic Church for heresy. The souls of two of the Knights burned at the stake, Malchezidek (Ben Bayless) and Gabriel (J.A. Steel) are condemned to continue the heavenly battle between good and evil, fighting for the souls of men. Seeking to end her existence in Purgatory and find Redemption, Gabriel saves murdered 8 year old Michaela (Alyssa Wilson) and hides her away in a small Midwest town run by Sheriff Dade (Glen Jensen).

Several years pass when Michaela (Heather Surdukan) finally confronts the Biker Gang that killed her led by Billy Bedlam (Devon Brewster). Sheriff Dade suddenly has a string of unexplained murders that all lead to Michaela as the killer. Michaela must choose sides in the heavenly battle between Malchezidek and Gabriel and her own existence in Purgatory forever.

Award winning BMI composer Dan Radlauer composed the stirring orchestral opening to the trailer while Cody McCallister (also known as Zakky Nova, lead singer for the Salt Lake City band 4Saken1) composed the riveting song "Lies". 4Saken1 performed "Lies" to a capacity crowd at the festival during a 45minute song set. Dan, unable to tear himself away from working on the SALVATION feature score, congratulated Cody by phone from Los Angeles upon hearing the news. Ben Bayless who played Malchezidek in SALVATION was also on hand during the awards show to congratulate McCAllister.

Steel also managed to get her first radio interview for SALVATION on the local Salt Lake City morning show "Radio from Hell" as McCallister brought out his Zakky Nova alterego. The show was broadcast live from the Park City Harley Davidson on X96. The interview ran the gambit on everything from porn to the Catholic Church to Zakky Nova's real name.

Even with all the partying at Sundance, Steel did manage to get some work done. She gathered enough support to place two of her scripts, the action/thriller BLOOD DEED and the action/sci-fi NIGHT OF THE HUNTER into active development for possible production by the end of the year.

Feb 9, 2007 · Oklahoma Film takes home Silver Medal at Park City Film Music Festival during Sundance · Press Release

In 2004 Indie Action director J.A. Steel won the Bare Bones' Film Festival Indie Auteur of the Year award - the festival's highest honor for the 35mm feature THE THIRD SOCIETY. Steel fell in love with Oklahoma and returned three years later to film her next feature SALVATION.

Steel filmed SALVATION in Oklahoma under the tax incentives offered by the state. Steel only had to fly in herself, Ben Bayless, and Glen Jensen (whom Steel considers a local because his family still lives in Wagoner). The rest of the cast and crew were local. Steel met Director of Photography Hartley Powell, Cameraman Gary Dominguez, Sound Mixer Jeff Leyerle, and Special Effect Make-up Keller Powell during the 2004 Bare Bones Film Festival in Muskogee where the team won Best Oklahoma Soil Film for their feature VALENCE THEORY. During subsequent festivals organized by Shironbutterfly and Oscar Ray, Steel also managed to meet the rest of the cast and crew. "Oklahoma has been really good to me - it's a very easy state to film in with a wide variety of locations. I can't wait to film there again."

Steel's use of the wide variety of Oklahoma locations added great production value to SALVATION. When the trailer premiered during the Park City Film Music Festival executives could be heard commenting on the presence of the jet (Courtesy Flight Concepts/Tulsa & Oklahoma City), a medieval castle (Courtesy of the Castle of Muskogee), and a small town (Courtesy of the Cities of Muskogee and Ft. Gibson).

During the festival, Steel was asked if her two projects in active development BLOOD DEED and NIGHT OF THE HUNTER might be filmed in Oklahoma, which she responded with a quick "Yes." The only trouble Steel admitted was having a New York skyline in a sequence in one of the scripts. With a quick smile, Steel simply responded "Second Unit, like I did in Australia with THIRD SOCIETY - run and gun." And how to get there? "On a Flight Concepts charter jet of course!" Steel grinned as jet sequences are rapidly becoming her signature mark.

Jan 8, 2007 · Indie film Director Steel seeks SALVATION in Park City during Sundance · Press Release

Award winning director J.A. Steel will once again screen at the Park City Film Music Festival. Previously Steel won Best Action film score along with the Emily O'Neary Band for her first feature THE THIRD SOCIETY. This time she will screen in the shorts category with the trailer for her sophomore feature film release, SALVATION.

Filmed entirely in Oklahoma, SALVATION opens with the murder of the Knights Templar in 1307 by the Catholic Church for heresy. The souls of two of the Knights burned at the stake, Malchezidek (Ben Bayless), and Gabriel (J.A.

Award winning BMI composer Dan Radlauer will be composing the original score for the film. Dan is one of the top composers for Reality Television having won awards for Outback Jack, etc. An accomplished pianist, guitarist, bassist, orchestrator and synthesizer programmer, Dan's ability to compose in many styles from classical, jazz and symphonic music, to rock will add to the musical artistry of the soundtrack being woven by Steel.

Steel has been working with Salt Lake City composer Cody McCallister to craft the theme song, "Prophet's Prayer" and the additional song "Angels Fly".  Cody's song, "Lies" will be the first song off the soundtrack to be made into a music video. Salt Lake City based band Secret Sobriety will be contributing their acoustic powerhouse ballad "End of the World" to the soundtrack for the church scenes.  Emily O'Neary’s new band "M" will contribute at least one song. Steel is still negotiating with Pittsburgh based band, Stronghold, for their song "Power Rises".

Ben Bayless, whose acting previous credits include Patrick Muldoon's body double in "Ice Spiders" will be appearing during the Park City Music Festival along with Steel. Glen Jensen, currently filming "Mercy Man", and Heather Surdukan, currently working on a stage production of Shakespeare's "Titus" will be unable to attend due to their schedules.

Steel is no stranger to music, having gotten her start in negotiating deals for the rock band St. Elmo's Fire in France and Germany. She also produced three songs on Jeff Jones' solo album "Ride". Leaving rock temporarily, Steel worked with Classical Russian piano player Sasha Alexeev in the Asian Market with BMG Asia. Sasha's solo album "Wintertales" featured the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra on the Rock Records label. THE THIRD SOCIETY soundtrack signaled Steel's return to the rock genre with the Emily O'Neary band. The soundtrack's "Angel Tonight" was written by Steel and Emily.

With its emphasis on music used in independent film, the Park City Film Music Festival highlights movies that best utilize music or a variety of music throughout the course of a film. Sep 11, 2006 · J.A. Steel has been tapped to helm SALVATION ·
Press Release

Award winning filmmaker J.A. Steel has been tapped to helm the sci-fi/fantasy/horror film SALVATION from Warrior Entertainment.

Warrior Entertainment's latest feature film, SALVATION began filming in Muskogee, Oklahoma earlier this month. SALVATION follows the war in heaven and the battle for men's souls. The Angel of Death, Gabriel, is about to find a successor in 9-year old Michaela Weaver. Michaela is murdered by forces under control of Malchezidek ("Mal"), who has turned against god. Gabriel steals away Michaela, healing her body and training her in the art of war.

Michaela, fully grown, seeks vengeance on the men who killed her. As she administers justice, asking for the evil doers to repent, Mal tries to trick her into becoming one of his minions. Gabriel suspects a plot from Mal and sacrifices her ability to move between Heaven and Earth to save Michaela. Michaela succeeds Gabriel as the Angel of Death, becoming the "new" Gabriel destined to walk the earth fighting Mal's forces and saving men's souls until her own successor is chosen.

2004 Bare Bones Indie Auteur Winner JA Steel will once again take up the "Auteur" title, to direct and produce the script she had written earlier this year. When asked about any additional duties, Steel replied "I still can't act my way out of a wet paper bag... but I'm really good at getting even with the bad guys." Steel will play Gabriel opposite newcomer Ben Bayless as Malchezidek.

Steel's brief bit of training under Anthony De Longis from THE HIGHLANDER: THE SERIES, will come in handy during the extensive swordfight scenes. Steel previously choreographed some of the fight scenes in her previous film THE THIRD SOCIETY. She hopes that the training and practice sword fighting with Bayless will lend itself to an action packed film. "I am hoping for a cross between HIGHLANDER and UNDERWORLD doing what I can with a "B-Movie" budget."

Steel will craft the look of the film with Director of Photography Hartley Powell. Steel and Powell met at the 2004 Bare Bones Film Festival where Powell's VALENCE THEORY won Best Oklahoma Soil Film. Gary Dominguez who was the cameraman on VALENCE THEORY will also sit behind the lense on SALVATION. Jeff Leyerle and Keller Powell will add their previous expertise in sound and SPFX make-up respectively.

Fantasy and Comic Book artist, Kevin Rasel will be doing the concept illustrations and storyboards as well as lending the musical talents of his band, Stronghold, to SALVATION's soundtrack with "Power Rises" from the "Portals of Illusion" CD. Steel is also in negotiations with 4Saken1, a band from Salt Lake City, UT for their song "Lies."

The main role of Michaela will be played by Shakespearean actress Heather Surdukan who had a previous role in WISTERIA: THE STORY OF ALBERT FISH. Glen Jensen will return to his native Oklahoma to play the role of Sheriff Dade, caught up in the middle of the heavenly battle. Devon Brewster will play Guy de Payns. The evil mob boss Vladimir will be played by Brett Flynn. Morris Walker plays Father Murphy, a Catholic Priest who continues to believe in the goodness of the human spirit. Michaela's younger self will be played by Alyssa Wilson. Michaela's father, Jared will be played by Jody Mullins. Ilana by Christina Mahan. Adam Ropp who co-starred with Steel in CEREBRAL PRINT: THE SECRET FILES has a cameo as Monsignor De Culcan. Shane Coble is the Bodyguard. Jeff Leyerle is Count Bourgeois Beaujolais.

J.A. Steel Walks Off the Set of SACRED BLOODS, Finishes Interviewing for Todd Roberts' THE BUCKLE

Indie action star J.A. Steel walked off the set during filming the independent vampire film SACRED BLOODS citing safety concerns and creative differences with writer/producer Oscar Ray. Determined to put her time in Muskogee, Oklahoma to good use Steel did complete an interview for Todd Robert's documentary THE BUCKLE about Gays and Lesbians in Oklahoma and the mid-west states.

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) May 15, 2006 -- JA Steel has returned to her home in Salt Lake City after spending 10 days in Oklahoma where she began filming the independent vampire movie SACRED BLOODS for Darkwood Motion Pictures. Steel managed to film one fight scene, before walking off the set due amid safety concerns and differences with the creative team. Steel has simply issued the statement, "Just because a film is low-budget is no excuse for sacrificing the safety of the actors or the crew. What I was promised when I agreed to do the project was not was delivered - either contractually, storywise, or with regard to safety." Steel has refused further comment regarding the status of her continued involvement in SACRED BLOODS.

While in Muskogee, Todd Roberts of Start Pictures did manage to visit with Steel who was the Bare Bones International Film Festival Indie Auteur of the year for her film THE THIRD SOCIETY. Todd shot an interview that lasted well over two hours between THE BUCKLE writer Tim Cornman and Steel.

Production began earlier this year on THE BUCKLE: GAYS IN THE BIBLE BELT. The documentary project of filmmaker Todd Roberts and writer Tim Cornman was created to further their understanding of some of life's more controversial questions in what is considered the Bible Belt.

Company officials said THE BUCKLE will take the audience to the heart of the trials and struggles of the equal rights movement. Roberts and Cornman, straight guys, journey into unfamiliar territory seeking truth through understanding of the myths and misconceptions of gay life in the heartland of America. "We are not taking a one-sided approach, though," Roberts said. "We also want to represent the families and friends of gays, clergy, elected officials and the Oklahoma population at large."

Although a resident of Salt Lake City, Steel agreed to an interview after the amount of time she has spent in Muskogee, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City. "I have faced bigger prejudice moving to Salt Lake than anything I have experienced while being in Oklahoma. Having traveled a large portion of the United States and having lived and worked aboard I've found if I don't make a big deal about my sexuality, no one else does either." Steel has won numerous awards at the Bare Bones Film Festival, Script 2 Screen, and at the Cherokee Film Festival.

Steel plans to return to Muskogee in the coming months to film the action/horror/thriller SALVATION.

J.A. Steel to co-star in the vampire movie SACRED BLOODS.

Independent action star J.A. Steel has signed to co-star in Darkwood Productions SACRED BLOODS scheduled to start shooting in April 2006.

J.A. Steel has signed on with Darkwood Productions and Angry Baby Monkey Pictures to co-star in the action horror film SACRED BLOODS. The independent production of a vampire saga spans a period from Ancient Rome to the present. The story follows uneasy vampire allies in a quest to find two ancient artifacts with the power to turn day into night, ultimately giving vampires dominion over the Earth. The fast paced horror thriller laden with action will also star independent award winning actors Ford Austin, Peter Zhmutski and Oscar D. Ray.

J.A. and Ford have previously worked together on CEREBRAL PRINT: THE SECRET FILES where Steel played a Intergalactic Bounty Hunter chasing space aliens. J.A. and Peter first met in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the Bare Bones Film Festival in 2004 where they delighted audiences with an impromptu martial arts demonstration. "I'm excited about working with Ford again and happy to get a chance to make a movie with Oscar and Peter. It's going to be fun", Steel commented from her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. SACRED BLOODS promises to test Steel's action sensibilities with high adrenaline action. Steel dubbed the female "Jackie Chan" for her willingness to perform her own dangerous stunts, promises some of her signature moves.

Steel's latest project, DIVE THE DEEP BLUE recently finished post production in Los Angeles in December. The documentary style television series follows J.A. through her adventures in the realm of technical scuba diving - beyond the recreational depth limits of 130 feet and into the overhead environment of fresh water caves and the crushing depths of the ocean. Steel is a PADI Divemaster, an IANTD Full Cave Diver, and TDI certified in Decompression Procedures. Filming of SACRED BLOODS scheduled to begin shooting in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas beginning April 24, 2006 will take place during a break in filming of the show.

The Annual event features screenings, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, workshops, panel discussions and conferences all in the 5 Day event. The Abuja Film Festival and broadcast market has been so packaged to bring together filmmakers, producers, writers, broadcasters and all those in the film, video and television industry under one roof to interact, network, exhibit and exchange ideas that relate to the plying of their trade. The Event will also afford decision makers in the film, video and broadcast industry a platform to meet, interact, and brainstorm with a view of fostering better and equitable trade relationships.

J.A. was invited to attend the festival by director Fidelis Duker; regrettably she was unable to attend due to conflicts with her schedule. Steel commented, "I would love to have the opportunity to travel to West Africa. I feel that filmmaking will bring the whole world closer together. Film is a fantastic medium where we can share our thoughts and ideas."
